Foil printed plastic cards

Saturday, May 30th, 2009

Our most popular product ranges are the full colour solid plastic cards and the foil printed plastic cards. I wanted to briefly touch upon the foil printed cards. The most popular card from this range is the clear plastic cards.

I am note sure that many people are aware of this but the clear plastic cards, satin black plastic cards and metallic plastic cards are all printed using the same printing method.

This is really important to point out, as if you are thinking of starting a membership scheme you could utilise these different base cards to show different member categories, for example:

Frosted clear plastic cards: Standard membership
Metallic Silver plastic cards: For silver members (or perhaps platinum)
Metallic Gold plastic cards: For gold members
Satin black plastic cards: For very exclusive members

Obviously you can organise the different tiers of membership anyway you like and the above is just to give you an idea.

I hope this has given you something to think about. Please drop us an email if you would like a quote.

Plastic cards, we email a photo-realistic proof to you

Friday, May 29th, 2009
We are amazed at how many customers email their artwork to us for their plastic cards and once they receive their photo-realistic proof back, they spot errors on their own artwork.
Below is an email we received this morning from one of our customers who had emailed their artwork to us and then received one our of photo-realistic proofs.
Yes all received

Just making a decision

I have noticed the freephone number is missing and there is a spelling mistake so I will need to send new artwork when we order.

Kind regards

We are glad that they spotted the error before a postal proof was sent to them, it is just a pity that they didn’t check their artwork before they sent it to us as this will save everyone time.

Clear plastic cards are printed in the UK

Thursday, May 28th, 2009

Hi all,

It has come to our attention that a lot of American companies are advertising clear plastic cards on the internet search engines. I just wanted to point out that we are a UK based company and our cards are produced in the UK.

This means that the production and shipping time for your order is not delayed by the cards having to cross waters or potentially being delayed by customs.

Also remember that when your order goods from America you will also be subject to duty (which I believe is 5%) and also VAT at 15%

Please come and purchase our clear plastic cards, they are great!

Bye for now.

Plastic cards and how to order them

Wednesday, May 27th, 2009

The process to order our full colour solid plastic cards can be summarised by the following:

1) Customer emails artwork over to us
2) We provide a photo-realistic proof for checking by email
3) Customer approves the proof
4) We produce a postal proof/actual finished card with the customers design on
5) Customers approves postal proof and we print the full order OR new artwork is submitted.

We offer the postal proofs so that customer can review the printing of the cards before we print the whole order. Occassionally customers will notice a typo or other mistake when viewing the postal proofs. Really this should have been picked up before they submitted there artwork to us or even when we send a PDF proof back to the customer to double check. However occasionally it takes until the hard copy proof doe these mistakes to be noticed.

We have noticed that when this happens it is amazing the number of customers who do not want to see the 2nd postal proof, although it took until this stage first time around for the mistake to be noticed. We do politely try to point this out to customers and most times they agree to the 2nd postal proof.

An example of this situation is below which happened this week:

“I collected the proof this morning and noticed that I got one of the telephone numbers wrong on the file I sent you.

I’ve attached a new front for the card which changes the mobile number from 07xxx xxx xxx to 07xxx xxx xxx.

As I am happy with the quality of the cards, I’m happy for you to email me a proof just showing the new telephone number etc (just so I know you’re using the new PSD file and not the old one).”

This customer is having 2nd postal proof!

We just wanted to point out that the proofs are a good idea to have!

Plastic cards, what are the artwork specifications?

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

We receive artwork in many file formats from both end users who have had a go’ at creating it to the correct specification and also from graphic design companies.

We do find, most of the time that the artwork hasn’t been submitted to the correct specification. When this happens we email the customer saying that this is the case but we will fix it free of charge.

Our artwork specifications can be found here

We have noticed today that one of our competitors now charges a whopping £79 to review your artwork and fix it then send a shoddy pdf proof back to you.

We do not charge a penny for our ‘file reviewing and fixing service and we send a photo-realistic proof to you for approval – click here for an example.

Frosted clear business cards and satin black cards – needed in a hurry

Tuesday, May 26th, 2009

We often have customers asking for frosted and satin black cards with a very short time period.

The standard turnaround time for this product is 7 to 10 working days.

This time frame builds in time for the printing plates to be ordered, produced and received. This can at worse case scenario take 3 working days.

The timeframe also includes time to actually print the cards and some room for any problems occurring. For example occasionally the printing plates may be damaged in the post / during transit.

We can offer rush order, which may sometime but subject to an additional charge to cover ordering express printing plates and paying staff to work overtime.

I just wanted to very briefly explain why this product does take a little time to produce.

Please contact us if you have any order you need really quickly.

A rush order of plastic cards

Saturday, May 23rd, 2009

A repeat customer who places regular orders for frosted plastic cards with three ink colours got in touch last week, as they urgently required some cards for an event.

The order was for the total quantity of 1250 cards but split between 3 different names/designs.

As this order involved different names and therefore different  printing plates the pressure was really on with this order.

Luckily we managed to juggle things around a little and managed to dispatch with time to spare,

The customer comments are as follows:

“The business cards have arrived a whole day early and they look fantastic,
thank you very much.”

We managed to dispatch this order in  three working days.

I can’t promise that this turn around time will always be achievable however if you need your plastic cards in a rush please contact is and we will try our best for you.

A plastic card order that went wrong

Friday, May 22nd, 2009

We had an order for full colour solid plastic cards recently which did not go quite to plan.

The order was for a relatively small quantity of 250 cards with white signature panels/write on strips.

We sent out a postal proof as always which was approved and proceed to print the full order. This all appeared to go to plan however on receipt of the order the customer noticed a glitch with the cards. It appeared that the cards had been accidentally over printed with another companies website address. The staff member in our bureau office must have got carried away.

Luckily the customer was very understanding, as after all, mistakes do happen & he obviously realised this. Thank you for your understanding if you are reading this.

We re-printed the cards and dispatched the replacements within one working day. The customer on receipt of the replacement cards emailed to say:

” Very many thanks for getting the new cards done so quickly… & for adding some extras, too: we really appreciate that. I did get them on Wednesday, but I’ve had manic days since & omitted to confirm receipt – apologies.”

We are sorry that the mistake happened in the first place and have put measures in place to ensure the same mistake is not made again. Its nice that a positive outcome has arisen from this mistake.

Ta ta for now

Plastic Cards, lets keep them British

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

Hello all,

Sorry to bring up this area again but I’m thinking of staring a campaign called “Keep Plastic Cards British”. ok I kind of got the name from Jamie Olive’s various campaign’s but not everyone can be inventive!

There are a lot of plastic card companies around who outsource production of the plastic cards to places like China. To put it simply, we can not complete on these prices as there labour rates and other costs are so low.

I would like to encourage you all to thinking about where your cards are actually produced and to consider the impact that this has.

To briefly expand on this please consider:

The environment – transporting plastic cards half way around the world simply is not environmentally friendly
The UK economy – lets help the UK economy as much as we can in this difficult time, anything that helps the UK economy will help the residents of this country

If anyone would like to offer any support, please feel free to message back with any comments.
