Car Key Tags for Garages and Dealerships

A key board with sixty sets of keys and a pile of brown paper tags is how a car gets handed to the wrong customer. Numbered plastic key tags make the board readable at a glance, and they are still readable after a year of oily hands.

CP Cards prints car key tags for independent garages, main dealers, MOT centres, valeting firms and fleet operators. Manufactured in England since 1992.

Numbered tags, used again and again

The simplest system is a numbered tag. The number goes on the job card or into your garage software, and the tag goes back on the board when the car leaves. Nothing is written on the tag, so the same set lasts for years. We print sequential numbers in any range, large enough to read from across the workshop.

Write-on tags for stock and long jobs

Dealers holding stock for weeks usually want the registration on the tag itself. Our premium matt finish takes permanent marker, or we can add a write-on panel that takes an ordinary pen.

Colour coding helps on a busy board: one colour for service customers, another for used stock, a third for courtesy cars.

Your name on the customer’s keyring

Some garages order a second tag to leave on the customer’s keys when the car goes home: garage name, phone number and a space for the next service or MOT date. At 54 x 29mm, a key fob tag sits on the keyring until the next visit is due, which is when the customer needs your number.

How to Order

  1. Tell us the number range, size and finish you want
  2. Send your logo and any wording for the reverse
  3. Approve a free digital proof
  4. Tags printed and dispatched in 7 working days from proof approval and payment

Minimum order 25 tags. Standard turnaround 7 working days from proof approval and payment.

Key security on the forecourt

Vehicle keys are the easiest route to a stolen car, and motor trade insurance policies often set conditions on how keys are kept, so check yours. A numbered tag helps because it does not say which car it belongs to. The number only means something when it is matched against your own records.

For the same reason, avoid writing a registration and a customer address on the same tag if keys ever leave the premises, for example with a valeter or a recovery driver.

Why plastic rather than paper key tags

Brown paper tags with a metal ring cost next to nothing and last about as long as one job. In a workshop they pick up oil, tear at the eyelet and become unreadable. A PVC tag wipes clean with a rag, and the printed number cannot scratch or rub off, because it is printed under the card surface.

Printed for the motor trade

Key tags sit alongside the plastic business cards we print for car dealers, garages and valeting firms. You approve a free photorealistic proof by email before anything is printed, and we can post a printed sample if you want to try a tag on your key board first.
