Standard Display Carrier

The simplest of the four, and the one most people start with. A single flat piece of board, printed both sides in full colour CMYK. Nothing folds, nothing is die cut, and there is a full A6 face on each side for the message, the terms and the branding. You will need glue dots to fix the card to it, supplied separately.

It suits anything handed over rather than displayed — a gift card presented at a till, a membership card posted to a new joiner, a loyalty card given out at the point of sale.

Euro Slot Display Carrier

The same idea as our Standard Display Carrier, printed both sides in full colour CMYK but with a die cut euro slot punched through the top, so the carrier hangs from a standard retail hook or spinner. If your cards are sold rather than issued — a rack by the till, a stand in a reception, a display in a garden centre — this is the format that gets them seen. To hold the card in place, the carrier can have die cut slits, or you will need glue dots, supplied separately.

It is the same A6 size as the standard carrier, so the two sit level with each other on a display and take the same envelope if you ever post one. The main difference is the slot punched through the top.

Landscape Wallets with Die Cut Slits

The same construction turned on its side. The card sits landscape in the die cut slits, the way it sits in a purse, so the design on the card faces the reader the right way up the moment the wallet is opened.

It is the one to choose when the card is being given rather than displayed: it takes a handwritten message, and folded it drops straight into a standard envelope.

Card Sleeves

A creased and glued pocket that the card slides into, with a thumb notch cut in the top so the card comes out easily. It is the quickest of the four to use: one movement, card in, done. That is why hotels hand key cards over in them at check-in, with the room number written on the sleeve.

It is printed on the outside only, front and back, because the inside faces are glued together. The front carries the branding; the back is the place for the details, whether that is wifi and checkout times or how to use a gift or membership card.

Glue Dots

Carriers and cards are supplied separately, so you fix the cards in place yourself. Glue dots are the easy way to do it: small clear adhesive dots on a roll, peeled off the backing tape one at a time.

Press a dot onto the carrier where the card goes, then press the card on top. The dot is clear and sits behind the card, so it doesn’t show, and nothing needs to dry. They are for the standard and euro slot display carriers, where the card sits on the face of the board. A euro slot carrier can have die cut slits to hold the card instead, and the landscape wallet holds the card in its slits and the sleeve in its pocket, so those don’t need them.

• Use — fixing a plastic card to a standard or euro slot display carrier.
• Supplied — on a roll, ready to peel and press.
• Ordering — add them to your carrier order, or ask for them on their own.

Artwork & Production

Carriers are printed on board, which is a different process to the one that prints the cards. That has three practical consequences worth knowing before you start designing.

• You get a template. Every folded or die cut format has crease lines, slits, notches and perforations in fixed positions. We send you the template for whichever carrier you choose, so you can see exactly where they fall before a logo lands on one.
• Bleed and safe area work the same way as on a card. 3mm of bleed all round, and keep anything that matters 3mm in from the trim. There is more detail on our bleed and size page, and the artwork guides cover file formats.
• Colours will not match the card exactly. Ink on silk board and ink on PVC are two different surfaces, and the same CMYK values read slightly warmer on board.

No artwork? Our design service will set up the carrier and the card together as one piece, which is the sensible way to do it: the two are seen at the same moment and want to be designed at the same moment.
