What Football Clubs Print on a Membership Card
Club name and crest, member name, membership number and membership type — playing, supporter, junior, social, life member — make up the front of most football club cards. One detail that catches clubs out: football runs an August-to-May season, not a calendar year, so printing “2026/27” rather than “2026” avoids a stream of questions in January about whether cards are still valid.
The reverse usually carries the ground address, clubhouse opening hours, the terms of any member pricing at the bar, and how to find the fixture list. Clubs with a junior section print the age group on the card and add a registered parent or guardian, which matters for the safeguarding arrangements most youth leagues expect.
Where a club runs several age-grade teams, the age group is worth making the most visible thing after the name. It is the field volunteers check most often and the one that changes every season.
Matchdays, Mud and Cold Wet Hands
A football club card gets handed across a clubhouse doorway in November by someone whose hands are cold, wet and not especially careful. It spends the rest of the week in a kit bag with boots that came off a muddy pitch. Nothing printed on paper gets through a full season of that still looking like something a club would want to hand out.
These cards are 760-micron solid PVC — bank card thickness — with the design sealed beneath the surface. Mud wipes off, rain does nothing, and studs in the same bag will not scratch through to the print.
It is also worth saying that a rigid card handed over at a busy bar is simply easier to deal with than a limp one. It gets picked up, read and handed back in one motion, which on a matchday with a queue is not a trivial advantage.
Extras That Work Well for Football Clubs
Barcodes are the most requested addition, because they connect the card to the till. Member pricing at the bar stops depending on which volunteer is serving and starts being something the system applies. We print Code39 — the most widely supported — along with Code128 and EAN5; your till provider will tell you which one they read.
Colour coding by section is the other constant. Seniors, each junior age group, supporters and social members can each have their own card colour at no extra cost, since both sides are printed in full colour as standard.
For matchday officials, stewards and coaching staff, a 5mm punched hole 6mm in from the edge, or a 15mm x 3mm slot, lets cards hang from a lanyard where they stay visible for the whole afternoon. And for life members, club sponsors or long-service awards, a metallic base card — gold or silver, printed over in full colour — makes a card that is obviously different in the hand. The one thing to design around is white, since there is no white base underneath for white text or images to show through.

staff on holiday. Most orders go to the club secretary at home, which is fine.
If junior sections are run by different people — and in most clubs they are
— tell us and we will box and label each section separately so they can be
handed straight to the right coach.

An under-13 card printed this year and one printed three years ago will both be in
circulation, and a volunteer on a gate is relying on the colour rather than reading

Recyclable Material
Age groups roll over every season, which means junior cards genuinely are replaced
rather than kept — a club with six age groups is issuing and discarding a
great many cards over a decade.

The majority of cards that we print have a signature strip and also a unique number which is usually sequential however you can supply an Excel document and we can print the details from the document onto the cards so each one has unique details. For example, their name, membership number, expiry date, level of membership etc.

Usually the club secretary in July, though at bigger clubs the junior section
often orders its own.
Send the crest, section list and numbers, say whether you want a bar barcode, and
approve the proof we email. Cards arrive before the first fixture. We keep the
artwork so next July is a single email with the new season on it.

Can football club cards be used for matchday clubhouse access?
Yes. The card can be checked visually at the door, or carry a barcode or magnetic strip if you have an access system. Membership type and the season are usually printed prominently for exactly this reason.
Can junior section cards be issued by age group?
Yes. The age group can be printed on the card and given its own card colour at no extra cost, which makes it the fastest thing for a volunteer to check. A registered guardian can be printed on the reverse.
Can the card be used for member pricing at the bar?
Yes. A barcode ties the card to your till system so member pricing is applied automatically. We print Code39, Code128 and EAN5 — ask your till provider which format they read.
What's the minimum order for football club cards?
