What a Social Club Membership Card Should Carry
Club name, member name, membership number and category — full, associate, affiliated, honorary, life, committee — make up the front, with the membership year set clearly. The year matters more here than almost anywhere else. A social club is generally licensed premises run on a members-and-signed-in-guests basis, which makes the card the thing a door steward relies on, so the expiry needs to be readable without being studied.
The reverse is where clubs put opening hours, the rules for signing in guests and how many a member may bring, bar and entertainment pricing, and the house rules stewards are expected to enforce. A committee or secretary contact usually goes on there too.
Clubs with reciprocal arrangements have one extra consideration: your card will be read by stewards at other clubs who have never seen it before. That is an argument for a conventional, uncluttered layout with the club name, the year and the category obvious, rather than a design that needs explaining.

Social club cards are handled more than most. Two or three evenings a week, often in a queue, often under a porch light that is not doing much. That combination puts a premium on two things: a card that stays physically intact, and a layout that can be read quickly in poor light.
The physical side is straightforward. These are 760-micron solid PVC cards — bank card thickness — with the design sealed beneath the surface, so they do not soften, fur at the corners or lose their printing the way a paper card does after a few hundred handovers.
The layout side is worth spending five minutes on when we send your proof. Look at the card the way a steward will: at arm’s length, in bad light, for about a second. Whatever they need — usually the year and the category — should be the thing the eye lands on first.
Options That Solve Real Social Club Problems
Changing the card colour each membership year is the most effective trick we can suggest, and it costs nothing because both sides print in full colour as standard. A steward does not have to read an expiry date at all: this year’s cards are green, last year’s were red, and an out-of-date card is obvious across a doorway. Clubs that adopt it rarely go back.
Sequential numbering is the other near-universal. Social clubs run on registers, and the membership number is effectively the membership, so having the cards numbered in issue order keeps the two aligned. Specify a start number, or send an Excel file with exact numbers.

The majority of cards that we print have a signature strip and also a unique number which is usually sequential however you can supply an Excel document and we can print the details from the document onto the cards so each one has unique details. For example, their name, membership number, expiry date, level of membership etc.
