What a Boxing Club Membership Card Should Carry
The most important field on a boxing club card is not the member’s name. It is whether that member is cleared for contact. A coach supervising a busy gym floor needs to know in a glance who is training non-contact only and who is cleared to spar, and a card is the quickest place to record it — far quicker than a folder in the office.
Around that sit the usual details: club name, boxer’s name, membership number, governing-body registration, and the date the card runs to. Registration date matters here more than in most sports, because sparring and competing under club colours generally depend on it being current.
The reverse usually carries training nights, the coaches’ contact numbers and an emergency contact. Clubs with a junior section add parental consent status, which is the piece of information most often needed at short notice and least often to hand.
Why Plastic Is the Only Sensible Choice in a Boxing Gym
Boxing gyms are humid places. Between the bags, the skipping and a room full of people working hard, there is moisture in the air all evening, and a card gets handed over at the sign-in desk by someone whose hands are still wrapped. Printed paper does not last a season in that environment, and a laminated card fails at the corner where the seal lifts.
These cards are 760-micron solid PVC with the design sealed beneath the surface. They wipe clean, they do not soften, and the print will not rub away against the contents of a kit bag.
A matt finish tends to work better than gloss here for the simple reason that it does not hold fingerprints — and in a boxing gym, a card is rarely handled by clean dry hands.

Colour coding is the one we recommend most often, because the distinction it carries is a safety one. Giving non-contact members a visibly different card from those cleared to spar means a coach can see the difference across a noisy gym without reading anything. Both sides of every card are printed in full colour as standard, so this costs nothing extra.
Two signature strips work well alongside it. The first is signed by the member; the second is labelled for the date of the last medical or sparring clearance review and written in pen, so it can be updated as often as your club policy requires without a reprint. A typical strip is 75mm x 8mm, and while we cannot print onto the strip itself, wording can be printed directly above or below it.
Beyond that, sequential numbering keeps card numbers aligned with the club register, and variable data printing lets every card carry its own boxer’s name and registration number — supply an Excel file containing only the details to be printed and it all happens within one production run.
