A rowing club card has to do something unusual: prove safety competency to a duty officer and open a boathouse holding a great deal of expensive equipment. The design follows from those two jobs.

What a Rowing Club Membership Card Should Show
The front carries the club name, the member’s name, a membership number, their squad — junior, novice, senior, masters — and the year. Rowing clubs have one design advantage most sports do not: blade colours. A club’s blade design is instantly recognisable to anyone in the sport, and putting it on the card gives you a distinctive membership card without needing anything else.
The field that matters operationally is safety competency. Whether a member has passed a swim test and completed a capsize drill is the first question the duty safety adviser has, and it decides whether someone can take a single out unsupervised. Having it on the card answers it without a trip to the office.
The reverse typically carries the boathouse access arrangements, the navigation rules for the club’s stretch of water, the flag or condition system the club works to, and an emergency contact. For clubs on tidal or fast-flowing water, the condition rules are the part members genuinely refer back to.
A Card in a Bag That Is Never Quite Dry
An outing at six in the morning in November ends with everything in the bag soaked — kit, shoes, the lot. It goes home, it half dries, and it is back on the water thirty hours later. That cycle repeats all winter.
Printed paper lasts weeks in that. A laminating pouch lasts a little longer, until the seal lifts at a corner and water wicks in behind the film, at which point the print inside is gone for good.
These cards are 760-micron solid PVC with the design sealed beneath the card’s own surface, so there is no film and nothing to get behind. They can be soaked, wiped and put back in the bag indefinitely, which for a sport conducted entirely on water is rather the point.
Boathouse Access and Other Useful Options
Access control is the option rowing clubs ask about most, for the obvious reason that a boathouse holds a great deal of expensive equipment behind one door. An RFID card — 1K or 4K Mifare or Fudan — suits contactless readers and is supplied unencoded, so you write your own data to it. A barcode in Code39, Code128 or EAN5 works with most sign-in systems, and a magnetic strip can be encoded by us or left blank for you to encode.
A signature strip labelled for safety competency is the other one we would suggest. Swim tests and capsize drills get renewed on their own timetable, and a strip takes an ordinary pen, so a safety adviser can sign one off at the end of a session rather than the club waiting for a reprint.
Colour coding by squad makes it obvious who belongs in which outing, and a 5mm punched hole lets regatta officials and umpires wear their cards on a lanyard where crews can see them. Sequential numbering, in any CMYK colour you like, ties the whole set back to your membership register and to the boat and blade sign-out book.

The majority of cards that we print have a signature strip and also a unique number which is usually sequential however you can supply an Excel document and we can print the details from the document onto the cards so each one has unique details. For example, their name, membership number, expiry date, level of membership etc.
