Triathlon Club Membership Card Printing

A triathlon club card has a job no other club card has. One membership covers three disciplines, usually at three different venues, often with three different coaches and three separate sets of session times. The card is frequently the only thing that ties the whole arrangement together for a member.

The front carries the club name, the athlete’s name, a membership number, governing-body registration covering all three disciplines, and the squad or ability group. Registration is worth prominence because licensed events ask for it and it applies across the whole sport rather than per discipline.

The reverse is where a triathlon card can genuinely outperform. Pool times and which pool, club ride and turbo session meeting points, run session locations — three sets of information that a new member otherwise has to assemble from three different places. Add an emergency contact and the card becomes something people keep in their kit bag rather than a drawer.

Tuesday it is in a chlorinated changing room being handled with wet hands. Saturday it is in a jersey pocket for four hours in the rain. Thursday it is in a kit bag after a run session, and at some point the whole lot goes through a washing machine. No other club card is asked to cope with all three environments in the same week.

Chlorine and humidity are what kill laminated cards; sweat and repeated soaking finish printed paper. Our triathlon club cards are 760-micron solid PVC with the design sealed beneath the card’s own surface, so there is no laminate for chlorine vapour to get behind, nothing to soften, and a wash cycle leaves the card exactly as it was.

For a sport whose members are, almost by definition, doing three times as much training as anyone else, that durability is not a luxury.

Variable data is the natural fit, because the two fields that matter most — the athlete’s registration number and their own emergency contact — are different on every card. Supply an Excel file containing only the details to be printed and every card comes out of one production run with its own, at no extra artwork charge.

A barcode is worth considering specifically for pool access. Triathlon clubs are usually guests at somebody else’s leisure centre, renting lane time, and the centre needs to satisfy itself who is entitled to be in the water. A card their system can read makes that somebody else’s problem rather than your coach’s.

Colour coding by ability group helps at sessions where three squads are training at once. A QR code — square, at least 15mm — pointing at your session calendar keeps three disciplines’ timetables current without reprinting. And for clubs putting on their own races or open water sessions, a 5mm punched hole lets marshals and safety cover wear their cards on a lanyard where they can be seen from the water.
