Understanding the Basics

Before you set out, familiarize yourself with the boat:

Hull:
The body of the boat.

Mast:
The vertical pole supporting the sails.

Boom:
A horizontal pole; the bottom of the mainsail.

Sails:
The primary tools for propulsion.

Rudder:
For steering the boat.

Keel:
A fin-like structure under the hull to stabilize the boat.

The left side of the boat.
